 We believe that ministry centers in the Micah 6:8 commission to “do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.”  This focuses in three aspects:

Humbly Walking With God -- Spirituality:  At Hillcrest Christian Church, we exist to support one another in spiritual growth.  This may be through

  • Thoughtful sermons -- using the Lectionary (a planned schedule of Bible passages designed to explore the entire scripture over the course of a 3-year cycle), to provide breadth of study.

  • Meaningful worship – using a variety of presentation styles to enhance our corporate relationship with God.

  • Corporate and individual study opportunities -- exploring the scriptures in depth.

  • Corporate and individual solitude -- opening ourselves to the voice of God through prayer and meditation.

  • Regular Discipleship classes -- encouraging our young people to learn to walk with God.

 In Community -- Fellowship:  At Hillcrest Christian Church, we offer opportunities to lift up one another and provide support to the community.  This takes many forms:

  • fellowshipping with one another around meals,

  • sharing with one another at a ball game or fireworks display;

  • providing support for community groups such as Boy and Girl Scout troops, homeowners associations, hobby organizations;

  • providing day care in a creative, Christian environment with a safe, nurturing atmosphere of love and friendship.

 In Compassion -- Hospitality:  At Hillcrest Christian Church, we exist for those beyond our walls.  Opportunities for mission include:

  • Johnson County Family Lodge in Olathe, Kansas

  • Argentine Food Kitchen in Kansas City, Kansas

  • Micah Ministry in downtown Kansas City, Missouri

  • a new food ministry being developed in the heart of Johnson County, Kansas

  • annual mission trips, and

  • financial support for ministries through the Disciples Mission Fund (DMF).

All persons have gifts and are suited to a role in ministry.  All are welcomed.

saw a stranger yestr'een.

  I put food in the eating place,
Drink in the drinking place,
Music in the listening place.
And in the sacred name of the Triune he blessed myself, he blessed my house,
He blessed my cattle and my dear ones.
And the lark said in her song,
Often, often, often goes Christ in the stranger’s guise.
